Abby's birthday party was last Saturday at a children's bookstore called Monkey See, Monkey Do. Nine girls came to celebrate, most dressed in princess costumes. They made crafts, heard a story and enjoyed cupcakes. Abby was a very polite guest of honor, receiving compliments from the staff and other parents.
Hope you had a magical birthday, Princess Abigail. xo

Heat Wave
Wow.
Not much else to say. The weather in Buffalo has been phenomenal. To beat the heat, we pulled out the lawn chairs, grill and sprinkler.
It's March, folks. Wow.

A Birthday to Remember
Abby's 5th birthday has certainly been one to remember.
We discovered that Maddie needed to have surgery Tuesday, just two days before Ab's birthday, which left me wondering if we were going to be able to hold our preplanned celebrations. We got home from the hospital Wednesday afternoon, and decided we would go ahead with taking Abby out to dinner.
Chip and I took Abby to her "fravorite" restaurant, The Melting Pot. To my surprise, Chip had called ahead and made reservations and told them we were celebrating a birthday. Our table was set up with balloons, chocolate and a keepsake newsletter just for Abby. I had tears in my eyes - it was such a thoughtful gesture on Chip's part. At the end of dinner, the staff came and took a picture of the three of us and then gave us the framed photo.
Thursday was her actual birthday, and we didn't do much. The kids and I played outside in the unseasonably warm weather. Even I joined in the fun by swinging. I asked Abby to push me, and she said, "This is fun! It's like I'm pushing an elephant!" I laughed. A lot.
And her birthday celebration contines. In a short while, we will be going to her birthday party. Her first party.
Until I post pictures of that event, here are some shots from her birthday at home.

Abby-isms
"Mama, I picked out supper! Tater tots and fish sticks! And YOU can pick out the carrots."
"I wish I was a boy so I could marry myself."
"Don't cry your pretty blue eyes."
"Mom, I love you. Thanks for picking out my parents."
"Mama, why is that boy walking down the sidewalk? Maybe his parents banished him."
"What's the name of the lady who brought the chicken pot pie? Well, she did a GREAT job baking the cookies."
And last but not least, Abby's first encounter with an infomercial... I fell asleep with the TV on the other night. When I got up to feed Maddie at 4:00, I noticed that Abby was in bed with me. I stumbled back into my bedroom 15 minutes later, and I noticed Abby was awake. I turned off the TV, and woke up a couple hours later. Abby turned to me and said, "What were you watching last night? It was a REALLY long commercial. This man was talking about a drink and it wouldn't go off. It's made from cactus fruit. You drink it if you have really bad pain, like pain in your knuckles or here (pointing to her forehead). It's for grown-up pain, I think."
